In preparation for our class field trip to Rome, I decided to spend my Thursday night watching the Lizzie McGuire movie. For those of you that don’t know, the Lizzie McGuire movie was filmed in Rome and highlights many of Rome’s famous attractions such as the Trevi Fountain. I think the major difference between my life and the movie is that Lizzie throws a euro into the fountain and ends up with a cute Italian pop-star asking her on a date while I threw in a 2 cent coin (broke college student problems) and ended up getting swarmed with tourists taking my spot in front of the fountain in order to get the perfect picture. Not all of us are as lucky as Lizzie.
The thing that surprised me the most about the Trevi Fountain is that it is not in a secluded, very prominent tourist attraction area. I expected the fountain to be very visible from the main road. In order to get to the fountain, you walk through a neighborhood and all of the sudden you look to the side and there it is. There were a couple police officers standing around the fountain blowing whistles and yelling at the tourists who were placing their feet and trying to stand on the edge of the fountain. The fountain is gorgeous and definitely a must-see while you’re in Rome but don’t get your hopes up for meeting a famous European pop-star upon your visit.
